My life was about to change. Comfortable aboard a luxury cruiser in remote Indonesia, a local couple emerged in a tiny canoe, revealing their nine-year old daughter suffering a nasty head injury, so bad her skull was visible - except for the local herbs they’d stuffed inside. They needed help. But I was saddened to realize no options existed. No doctor. No clinic. Poor quality hospital two days away. I imagined how helpless I’d feel if that were my child.
