Easter Surf Vacation Guide

by Guide Login January 15, 2025

Every year Easter seems to sneak up on the busy lifestyle of Tropicsurfers. We hear it all the time. Last-minute Easter plans are plagued by limited availability and premium pricing. Consider this your friendly reminder to plan ahead and swerve the stress. In this guide, we’ll explore five top destinations for April 2025, each offering unique surf experiences, exclusive accommodations, and plenty of family activities. We’ll cover everything you need to know to plan an unforgettable surf escape.

Let’s dive into five of our Travel Designer’s top picks:

Laucala Island Fiji

COMO Laucala Island, Fiji

COMO Laucala Island epitomizes the height of private island luxury, featuring only 25 exclusive residences spread across 12 square kilometers. Surrounded by lush coconut groves, crystal-clear lagoons, and powder-soft beaches, this exclusive retreat built by the late Red Bull founder Dietrich Mateschitz is designed for the world’s most discerning travelers.

While the surf may occasionally be affected by wind shifts in the month of April, the island’s true allure lies in its seclusion and natural beauty. Just a short ten-minute boat ride from the resort, the main right-hander provides an ideal mix of barreling sections, rippable faces, and mellow deep-water finishes, perfect for surfers of all levels. Better still, it’s very rare for another surfer to be seen.

Accommodations are as varied as they are breathtaking, ranging from Plantation Villas tucked among the coconut groves to Seagrass Villas that line the beach, to the Hilltop Estate, which offers sweeping views of the Fijian archipelago. For families, there is no shortage of activities, including horseback riding, jet skiing, a vibrant kids’ club, and even a miniature submarine adventure.

COMO Laucala caters to travellers who seek ultimate privacy, both on property and in the lineup.

Maldives

The Maldives is always high on the list of tropical travelers—and for good reason. Crystal-clear waters, thriving marine life, private overwater bungalows, and a variety of wave types make it a top destination for your next trip.

In the Maldives, you'll find waves for all abilities, from mellow reef setups to powerful barrels. With guided boat trips, you’ll explore countless surf spots across multiple atolls, ensuring variety and adventure every day. While early-season crowds can sometimes affect popular breaks, your Tropicsurf guide will prioritize your experience, leading you to one of our lesser-known spots for fewer surfers, higher wave counts, and more enjoyable sessions.

The iconic overwater bungalows, a symbol of the Maldives, offer complete privacy and immersion into the ocean and its vibrant marine life. Beachfront villas are perfect for those who want to step directly onto the sand each morning, enjoying a leisurely stroll to a fresh yet decadent breakfast before the day’s adventures.

Families will feel right at home, with a range of established kids' club activities designed to impress even the most discerning little travelers. Partners can unwind with water activities, rejuvenating spa treatments, or simply bask in the stunning Maldivian beauty. It's the perfect setting for creating an unforgettable Easter vacation.

Our Travel Designers recommend the following Maldives resorts for the month of April: Four Seasons Kuda Huraa, Gili Lankanfishi, Six Senses Laamu, COMO Maalifushi and Anantara Maldives. (Anantara is best suited to beginners so early in the season).

Mukul, Nicaragua

The word "Mukul" meaning "secret" in the ancient Mayan language, perfectly encapsulates this exclusive Nicaraguan reserve, accessible only to resort guests. It offers a secluded, safe, and culturally rich experience that feels both intimate and untouched.

With 17 uncrowded surf breaks, including the renowned Manzanillo Point, this world-class destination is typically blessed with offshore winds over 300 days a year. The left point break, located directly in front of the resort’s private beach club, provides a largely private surfing experience. Golf lovers can play on the world-class 18-hole course designed by David McLay Kidd, which overlooks the resort's break, ensuring you'll never miss a wave.

Accommodations are as diverse as the landscape, ranging from beachfront villas to elevated treehouse-style bohios, each offering stunning panoramic views of the Pacific or the surrounding jungle. The resort’s signature residence, Casona Don Carlos, is a 20,000 square-foot haven with soaring ceilings, Caribbean-native hardwood, and complete privacy.

Families can enjoy a variety of activities, from horseback riding to exploring the jungle’s wildlife, while couples can indulge in rejuvenating spa treatments, guided hikes, or simply relax on the beach.

Mukul is best suited to travellers who seek an intimate resort setting. With limited guests it’s very different to the bustling beach vibe of Hawaii or Bali. Instead the point break is a short paddle away and almost exclusively yours to enjoy.

Mahé, Seychelles

The Seychelles islands still feel largely undiscovered, with only about twenty of them inhabited. A French Creole influence is evident in culture, custom, and cuisine. Surf breaks are plentiful, though swells are rarely big. Mellow surfers looking to escape the crowds will find small, tropical waves in a stunning location unlike anywhere in the world.

Surfing in the Seychelles is relatively unknown. There are no surf shops or reliable online forecasts, and herein lies the beauty of the experience – crowd-free surfing in a laid-back, relaxed environment. Surf season runs all year depending on which island you target.. A variety of reef and beach breaks can produce waves of exceptional quality, especially for those on longboards or fish.

On the main island of Mahe, Four Seasons Resort offers intimacy with just 67 villas, including five suites, each featuring a veranda and plunge pool. Tropical birdsong fills the air, while the scent of cinnamon and frangipani lingers in the breeze. The villas are carefully positioned within the natural landscape, providing seclusion and a private island feeling.

Families will love the wide range of activities available, from surfing and rock climbing to snorkelling with WiseOceans Marine Educators. And for kids, the resort’s Kids’ Club is always a hit. This Easter, the Four Seasons (Mahe) Seychelles is a good option for those who seek mellow waves. It’s also perfectly paired with Four Seasons Desroches Island Resort where the waves also excel in the month of April.

Bali, Indonesia

Bali is Southeast Asia's surf mecca, offering everything from mellow beach breaks to world-class barrels. The island’s relaxed surf scene, with a mix of iconic and hidden spots, makes it perfect for surfers and non-surfers alike. Crowds can be a reality during peak season, but Bali’s diverse waves, vibrant surf culture, and rich local experiences make navigating them worthwhile.

The south-west coast features breaks for all skill levels. Echo Beach is known for smooth, mellow left-handers perfect for long rides, whilst on the Bukit. Uluwatu offers powerful barrels for more experienced surfers. The Bukit Peninsula delivers a range of reef and beach breaks, catering to both beginners and frothers. The surf season runs year-round, with the best conditions from April to October.

Bali’s famous spots like Uluwatu and Padang Padang can get crowded, but exclusive accommodations like Jimbaran Bay allow access to quieter breaks. Boat trips to less-frequented spots around airport reef and Toro Toro  offer a more serene surfing experience.

Bali's accommodations perfectly complement its natural beauty, offering luxury beachfront resorts, private villas featuring modern asian design. Beyond the waves, visitors can enjoy yoga, cultural excursions, and fantastic local cuisine. With its mix of surf, relaxation, and rich culture, Bali remains a top destination for all.

Four Seasons Jimbaran Bay is one of the most authentic luxury resorts in Bali and a long-time favourite for Tropicsurfers. Its proximity to relatively uncrowded reef breaks (via boat) is a unique draw-card. Alternatively, for a more contemporary option, COMO Uma Canggu offers absolute beachfront convenience ideal for surfers who enjoy a spontaneous  splash when the waves turn on.
