St Barts (a.k.a. St Barth) has become a favourite for Tropicsurfer families and romantics alike. Famous for its gorgeous beaches and scenery, bohemian charm and renowned ‘art de vivre,’ this is Caribbean charm shaken and stirred with Parisian flamboyance. Playful waves break directly onto the resort’s white sandy beach promising quick impromptu surfs at the reef pass out front. Like much of the Carribbean, waves are highly seasonal and mostly not large. But when Winter groundswell march down from the North Atlantic, the place can fire. Most breaks are reefs or points and Tropicsurf guidance is recommended to avoid hidden rock and urchin areas. There are half a dozen spots offering sheltered options suited to beginner and intermediate surfers. For more experienced surfers there’s a rippable left-hand point which breaks on mid-sized groundswells while enjoying protection from the trades.
