At Tropicsurf’s Six Senses Laamu base, we cater to all abilities. Beginners can find their feet in the calm lagoon directly in front of the Surf Shack. From here it’s just a short paddle to a small wave that can be suitable for first-timers.
Intermediates can carve it up at Jetty C, the house reef lefts, nearby Petrols or the mellower sections at outside Yin Yangs. With a dozen different waves to choose from there is often the chance for everyone to find his or her perfect wave.
Hard-core surfers wait for the section inside the channel at Ying Yangs for hollow, slabbing, but very perfect barrels. Similarly, Machines offers long down-the-line tubes over shallow reef but with a nice, easier shoulder mid-section.
Tropicsurf can arrange luxury speedboat transfers to Laamu's famous waves, or indeed further afield to the nearby Thaa and Dhaalu atolls. Travel in comfort or choose to anchor overnight if the waves are pumping. With over 20 years experience guiding surfers through the Outer Atolls VIPs can be assured of finding their surfing nirvana with Tropicsurf at Six Senses Laamu.
April to October is prime time with the biggest and best swells delivering some overhead days and consistent offshore winds. Experienced surfers can enjoy hollow powerful waves, whilst intermediate surfers are still able to relish sheltered reefs with more forgiving consequences. Shoulder months like November and December can also deliver. Generally December to March is off season when the waves are far less reliable and the wind direction less favourable to many of the best spots.
Tropicsurf has partnered with Firewire surfboards to offer a complete quiver of cutting edge eco-friendly boards for guest use. Avoid the hassle of travelling with your board by contacting Tropicsurf in advance of your stay to reserve choice of board; shortboard, fish, hybrid, or longboard. Stand Up Paddleboards are also available from the Tropicsurf Centre.
