Most people dream of the life of a pro surfer. Chasing endless waves, basking in international sun, and roaming from one beach paradise to another. But behind the sun and surf lies the grind; long days of travel, relentless competition, and the weight of sponsors and expectations. The ocean, for these athletes, is not just a playground but a workplace. So when four world-renowned female surfers had the rare chance to truly escape, to take a break from their whirlwind lives and relax together, they chose Nay Palad Hideaway in the Philippines. Proving a place for friendship, renewal, and rediscovery.

For these surfers, time spent together is usually in the competitive realm. Brief moments in-between heats, their bond shaped by the constant drive to perform. But at Nay Palad Hideaway Resort, they found something rare. In a world that often sees them only as fierce athletes, they could finally just be friends. The laughter that filled the air wasn’t about competition; it was about connection, the kind that only comes when you're surrounded by people who understand the pressure but aren’t in a rush to chase the next wave. Here, time stretched out, and life slowed down. It was a chance to share stories, surf and simply be.

Their trip served as a reminder that no matter who you are, no matter the glamour or grit of your life, true rest and companionship is essential. Whether you're balancing life in a bustling city or carving out space in a busy career, that need for meaningful connection is universal.

Caity Simmers and Stephanie Gilmore

After a smooth journey to either Manila or Cebu followed by a quick transfer to Siargao’s Sayak Domestic Airport; the girls were welcomed by a custom jeepney for the final 40-minute ride to paradise.

Upon arrival, they found themselves facing a promising swell, powered by the nearby Mariana Trench, the deepest part of the ocean known to humankind. This geological marvel funnels waves directly toward the island. While most storm swells lose energy in shallow waters, the Mariana Trench's immense depth allows waves to build more power. By the time they reach the shallow reefs surrounding Nay Palad, waves surge in energy, offering uninterrupted  surf to twenty local breaks; the most well known being Cloud Nine.

Nay Palad Hideaway Perlah Villa

After a devastating typhoon in 2021, the Perlah Villa was fully refurbished and now stands as a shining testament to Nay Palad's commitment to sustainable luxury. Accommodating up to nine guests, the villa boasts four beautifully appointed rooms, including two 50-square-metre master bedrooms and two luxurious double rooms of equal calibre. For Coco, Steph, and Caity, the villa provided the perfect balance. A spacious retreat where they could recharge, with plenty of room to relax in private, perfect for those accustomed to pushing physical and mental boundaries.
